Cymru Fydd/Future Wales after Independence.

As Cymru gets more Indie Curious should we not be thinking about our vision of what an Independent Cymru should look like?

Prehaps we should revive the name Cymru Fydd/Future Wales for what sort of stae we would like to see?

There is I  grant  an argument that it will be an independent Wales and its people to decide what course it should take .

However  I do not support  Independence just to replicate the British Westminster in a Parliament in Cardiff and think we should start looking at countries  like those in Scandinavia  particularly  Finland's education policy as an example .

There are a number of areas we need to look at.

  • The official name
Cymru clearly should be our name and we should sit between Cuba and Cyprus rather than Vietnam  and Yemen in the United Nations.
  • Republic/Constitutional Monarchy:
Unfortunately,  I expect the first years of an Independent Cymru will retain the English Monarchy in the same way Canada, or New Zealand does, but there should always be a constitutional right for us declare a Republic after a referendum.
  • Defence :
Should Cymru  copy Scotland's plan to stay in NATO or take an Irish Neutrality Stance?
It was  disappointing to see the SNP change its policy on NATO  before their Independence referendum , but without using Anti-American rhetoric we should avoid getting into Washington inspired   interventionary  policies and not being a member of NATO may well be easier to do.
Irish Defence Forces have seen active service as part of United Nations peacekeeping activities – initially in the early 1960s  Congo Crisis, and subsequently in Cyprus(UNFICYP) and the Lebanon (UNIFIL).and Cymru should seek to have only a small defence force and a Navy whose sole purpose is to protol our shores prehaps having a joint navy  with Scotland and Ireland and even England , dropped its pretence of being a global power. .

  • Foreign Policy:
Rejoining  the European would be a must.
One thing  we should investigate even before a referendum, is how our Civil Service should operate and  look at how small nations operate abroad and how we can run Embassies. Ireland again could be a template here.Social Policy /Health
  • Social Policy/Health:
Obviously keeping and improving the NHS is a must and  we should have a progressive Social Policy.
  • Industry ;
We urgently need  to have a new Cymru wide policy now that stops looking to attract inward investment that sees large companies come for a few years and the n leave when they get a better  offer. Instead we should seek to form cooperative ventures throughout Cymru and indeed a Mondragon  style of a corporation and federation of worker cooperatives based in the Basqueregion of Spain. It was founded in the town of Mondragon in 1956 by graduates of a local technical college. Its first product was paraffin heaters. It is the tenth-largest Spanish company in terms of asset turnover and the leading business group in the Basque Country. At the end of 2014, it employed 74,117 people in 257 companies and organizations in four areas of activity: finance, industry, retail and knowledge.[3] By 2015, 74,335 people were employed.
Indeed making a even more  co-operative Cymru.

These are just a few ideas of the Cymru I would like to see , not all will agree  but we need  to tell people now what independence means  leaving  an English  dominated will not be  enough of an argument.
