Israeli government should not be above criticism .

In the wake of the sacking  of labour's Rebecca Long Bailey  a  Plaid Cymru candidate at next year’s Senedd election has expressed concerns about a fellow prospective candidate after she posted a tweet linking police violence in the United States with Israel.which seems to be the reason behind Ms Long Bailey 'sacking

Wiliam Rees, the candidate for Cardiff Central, said that he would “express concerns internally” about Sahar Al-Faifi who has not deleted the tweet despite the criticism.

Sahar Al-Faifi is in the running to be a Plaid Cymru Senedd Member in the South Wales Central region, and if successful would be the first BME woman to be elected to the Welsh parliament.

She was previously suspended from Plaid Cymru in 2019 for anti-Semitic tweets on social media posted in 2014, but later deleted them and apologised.

However, at the beginning on June she posted a tweet saying: “If you wonder where did these American cops trained, look no further than Israel. Oppression is one and the struggle is transitional.”

The row seems to have emerged sue to an article in the Independent by the actress Maxine Peake  which criticised the current leadership of the Party's treatment of Jeremy  Corbyn  and included ...

....Peake campaigned for the Labour Party at the last general election, and was a vocal supporter of Jeremy Corbyn even as many people turned their back on him. “Those people who were normally Labour supporters who felt they couldn’t vote Labour? Well I’m sorry, they voted Tory as far as I’m concerned,” says Peake. “And it breaks my heart, because you know what? I didn’t like Tony Blair, but I still voted Labour because anything’s better than the Tories. There’s a lot of people who should hang their heads in shame. People going, ‘Oh, I can join the Labour Party again because Keir Starmer’s there,’ well shame on you.”

What does she think of the new Labour leader? “You know what, at the end of the day, all I want is the Tories out. I think people will get behind Starmer, won’t they? He’s a more acceptable face of the Labour Party for a lot of people who are not really left wing. But that’s fine. Whatever. As long as the Tories get out, I don’t care anymore. You can’t be sad, you’ve just got to get on and organise, without standing at the rooftops and going, ‘You reap what you sow!’ There were moments when I wanted to scream that,” she adds with a doleful laugh, “but no, we’ve got to keep moving forward.”

The Israeli allegation was only a small part and I doubt that it   was a reason why Ms Long Bailey reweeted it it was certainly  not the reason this blogger did.

It seems Ms Sahar Al-Faifi  and Ms Peake’s original claim is based on an article in the Morning Star from 1 June, which states: “At least 100 Minnesota police officers attended a 2012 conference hosted by the Israeli consulate in Chicago, the second time such an event had been held.”

The article has been shared over 40,000 times on Facebook, according to analytics provided by the website Crowdtangle.

According to a Channel 4 Fact Check.

This description appears to be supported by a report from Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) at the time of the event. By the MPR account, the conference took place in Minneapolis and was “put on by the Israeli consulate in Chicago, the FBI and Minnetonka police”. (Minnetonka is the neighbouring city to Minneapolis).

Which techniques were taught?

The Morning Star piece alleges that those attending the 2012 conference “learned the violent techniques used by Israeli forces as they terrorise the occupied Palestinian territories under the guise of security operations.”

The article does not explicitly claim that Israeli forces taught American police to kneel on a person’s neck at the conference.

The only link to this tactic in the story is made by an activist, Neta Golan, who told the paper: “When I saw the picture of killer cop Derek Chauvin murdering George Floyd by leaning in on his neck with his knee as he cried for help and other cops watched, I remembered noticing when many Israeli soldiers began using this technique of leaning in on our chest and necks when we were protesting in the West Bank sometime in 2006.”

Ms Golan is quoted as saying: “it is clear that they [Israel] share these methods when they train police forces abroad in ‘crowd control’ in the US and other countries including Sudan and Brazil.” The information in

square brackets is from the Morning Star’s copy.

The article mentions a 2016 report by Amnesty which lists US police forces that have “all traveled to Israel for training” and “thousands of others” that “have received training from Israeli officials here in the U.S.”

After yesterday’s controversy involving Maxine Peake and Rebecca Long-Bailey, Amnesty International told the New Statesman: “the precise nature of the training offered to US police forces by Israeli officials is not something we’ve documented”.

They added: “Allegations that US police were taught tactics of ‘neck kneeling’ by Israeli secret services is not something we’ve ever reported”.

Beyond the speculation of one activist, there is no information in the Morning Star article that would support the claim that the specific practice of kneeling on a person’s neck was taught to US police by Israeli forces.

So it seems  the claim is either unfounded or not proven , but if it was made against any other Police Force it would likely be dismissed off.

However such is the nature of current politics any criticism of Israel is treated as Anti-Semantic  whether it has any foundation or not .

It is a difficult task however we need to be able to distinguish the appalling actions of Israeli Forces in the West Bank and the growing hard line policies of the Israeli  government , whilst not revering to anti -semantic tropes.

Making unfounded accusation such as the above  (though  understandable) should clearly be avoided but is it not worse to ignore the actual evidence of Israels criminal brutal behaviour to towards the Palestinians.

Gareth Bennett joins Abolish the Assembly party.(What a surprise).

The news that Former Ukip Wales leader Gareth Bennett has just become the first ever Member of the Senedd for the Abolish the Assembly party.

Mr Bennett, who has been sitting as an independent since November last year, plans to represent the Abolish the Assembly party at the Senedd elections planned for next year. At the 2016 election, the party won 4% of the vote. Read the Wales Online interview in which he does not come out too well.

The term "former Ukip Wales leader  somewhat represents the farce that has been Ukip in the Assembly since they won seven seats in the 2016 Assembly elections. All of wh had a turgid time with the party they were elected for.

In the 2016 Assembly election Gill won a seat representing the North Wales region.[17] He was beaten to the post of leader of the UKIP group in the National Assembly for Wales by former Conservative MP Neil Hamilton. Farage described the move as an "unjust act of deep ingratitude" [18] resulting in Hamilton dismissing Farage as simply an "MEP for South East England whose opinions were irrelevant".[19] Gill subsequently left the UKIP group in the assembly to sit as an independent, citing much infighting and distractions.[20] He remained a member of the party and its leader in Wales, until Neil Hamilton was made Wales leader in September 2016.[21] Also in September 2016 Gill's media advisor Alexandra Phillips spoke to The Guardian, stating that she had left UKIP and joined the Conservatives, making comments critical of Hamilton.[22] Staying on as an advisor to Gill, she told BBC Wales that UKIP's foothold in Wales had become "a war zone".[23] Gill resigned as an AM in December 2017.

On 6 December 2018, Gill resigned from UKIP, in opposition to the party leader Gerard Batten's links to far-right activist Tommy Robinson.[4] He joined the new Brexit Party in February 2019.[24][25]

In May 2016, she voted for Neil Hamilton as leader of the UKIP group in the Welsh Assembly and against
Nathan Gill.[7] In March 2018 she was chosen by the UKIP Assembly group over Hamilton's choice of Gareth Bennett to be their representative on the party National Executive Committee[8] and in May 2018 she backed Caroline Jones to replace Hamilton.[9] Brown expressed regret at Jones leaving the group after Bennett won a ballot of party members intended to settle the group's leadership.[10]

In March 2016, Reckless was announced as UKIP's lead candidate for the regional seat of South Wales East. He was elected on 5 May 2016.

On 6 April 2017, Reckless left UKIP to join the Conservative Group; however, he did not rejoin the Conservative Party. This move made the Conservative group the second-largest in the Welsh Assembly. Upon leaving, he said, "I leave UKIP positively, having achieved our joint aim, a successful referendum to leave the EU".[29][30][31][32]

On 14 April 2019, Reckless left the Conservative Party Group over the party's failure to deliver Brexit. He then sat as an independent member[33] before joining until the Brexit Party the following month.[6]

On 15 May 2019, Reckless stated his intention to form a new Brexit Party political group, along with Caroline Jones, Mandy Jones, and David Rowlands. He is the current leader of the Brexit Party in the Senedd.[6]

Formerly a UK Independence Party (UKIP) Assembly Member, a somewhat odscure AM who seemed to stay out of the infighting but  Rowlands resigned to join the Brexit Party in May 2019.[3]

Jones defected from the Conservatives to UKIP in 2013[5] and in 2015 she stood for the party in the General Election for the constituency of Bridgend.[6]

Jones voted for Neil Hamilton to be the leader of UKIP in the Welsh Assembly.Gareth Bennett, UKIP, South Wales Central electoral region

Jones replaced Hamilton as leader of UKIP in the National Assembly on the 17 May 2018 following a vote by the UKIP group.[8]

On 10 August 2018, Jones lost the group leadership finishing last in the 2018 UKIP Wales leadership election in a three-way contest. Gareth Bennett won the contest and replaced her as group leader.[9]

On 12 September 2018, Jones announced that she was leaving the United Kingdom Independence Party citing her reasons as the party moving "to a more far-right position" under Gerard Batten and a leadership election that was "shambolic from beginning to end". She also said that she was a victim of misogyny claiming that she was once told to "shut up" at a meeting. UKIP Group Leader Gareth Bennett admitted that she was told this by a participant, but that "it had nothing to do with her gender". UKIP Wales Leader Neil Hamilton called on Jones to resign her regional list seat and allow another UKIP member to become an AM, which she refused to do.[10]

Party Leader Gerard Batten described her statement as "politically correct twaddle to disguise the fact that Mrs Jones is politically ineffective..

On 15 May 2019, Jones along with 3 other Assembly Members joined the Brexit Party.

Gareth BennettUKIPSouth Wales Central electoral region

Bennett joined UKIP in 2014. He campaigned in the 2014 European election, and was agent for UKIP candidate Brian Morris in Cardiff West at the 2015 general election.

When Bennett was selected to contest the South Wales Central electoral region, he was criticised for blaming rubbish problems in Cardiff on students and Eastern European immigrants and was nicknamed the 'Donald Trump of Wales'.[6] This led to senior UKIP figures including leader Nigel Farage and immigration spokesman Steven Woolfe publicly distancing themselves from Bennett.[7] A petition containing the names of 16 other UKIP Assembly candidates opposing Bennett's candidacy was presented to the party's National Executive Committee, which upheld his candidacy. He was elected to National Assembly for Wales as member for South Wales Central in 2016.[8]

In the UKIP Assembly group, Bennett backed Neil Hamilton for leader over Nathan Gill. After Hamilton became leader of the group, Bennett was appointed as UKIP Assembly spokesman for Local Government, Housing and Sport. In April 2017, Bennett was appointed as UKIP's Business Manager in the Assembly. In the same month, the Assembly's Equalities Committee, of which Bennett was a member, published a report about refugees. Bennett brought out his own report, in which he complained that the proposals would encourage more refugees to come to Wales.[9]

In December 2017, Bennett was banned from speaking in the Chamber of the Welsh Assembly for a year by Presiding Officer Elin Jones. The ban came after Bennett claimed that making the process to change legal gender easier would lead society to implode.[10] Bennett refused to apologise or withdraw his remarks, and was barred. In January 2018, Bennett made a partial apology in which he stated that he would accept the authority of the Presiding Officer, and he was allowed to resume his speaking duties without withdrawing his previous remarks.[11]

In February 2018, Bennett led UKIP's opposition to plans to expand the Welsh Assembly's membership.[12]

Bennett claimed almost £10,000 in expenses to set up an office which never opened.[13]

In July 2018, it was announced that there would be a ballot of UKIP party members in Wales to decide the position of UKIP Leader in Wales. The three candidates who announced that they were running for the post were former Assembly Group Leader Neil Hamilton, who had just been ousted from the role; Caroline Jones, who had ousted him; and Gareth Bennett. Bennett's main policy planks included his campaign to abolish the Welsh Assembly, and his opposition to the Welsh Government's Welsh language policies.[14] He won the UKIP Wales leadership election in August 2018, with 269 votes.[15]

In August 2018, Bennett was criticised by First Minister Carwyn Jones and other Assembly members for supporting Boris Johnson's remarks about the Muslim veil.[16]

On 3 June 2019, Bennett announced that he would be running in the 2019 UK Independence Party leadership election[17] after Gerard Batten stood down as leader.[18] Bennett has claimed that he would take UKIP forward with 'bold policy ideas', after Gerard Batten's one-year term came to an end.[19] Bennett published his 2019 UKIP Leadership Election Manifesto on his website, which includes policies such as 'National ID Cards' ,'UKIP Party Democracy', 'National Volunteer Force', 'Regular Referenda', 'Freedom of Speech', 'Regulating Mosques', 'Scrap Foreign Aid' and 'Abolishing Politicians'.[20] On 11 July, Bennett announced that he would withdraw his leadership bid in order to promote Ben Walker's campaign.

On 7 November 2019, he quit UKIP to become an independent politician

Mostyn Neil HamiltonMS (born 9 March 1949) is a British politician, non-practising barrister, and former teacher. He has been a UK Independence Party (UKIP) Member of the Senedd for the Mid and West Wales region since 2016. He was previously a Conservative MP for the Tatton constituency from 1983 to 1997.

After being implicated (alongside Tim Smith) in the cash-for-questions affair, Hamilton became widely associated with sleaze; he was defeated in the 1997 general election, and subsequently left politics. He left the Conservative Party in 2002, and joined UKIP. He was elected to the National Executive Committee of UKIP in 2011. Following his election to the National Assembly for Wales, he was UKIP Assembly Group Leader from 2016 to 2018 and again from 2019. He has been Leader of UKIP Wales since 26 September 2016.

  • Mandy Jones ,  Ukip North Wales Replaced  Nathan Gill

Jones stood for UKIP in the Clwyd South constituency at the 2015 General Election.[4] She also stood for UKIP in Clwyd South at the 2016 Welsh Assembly election, coming fourth behind Labour, the Conservatives and Plaid Cymru.[5] As the third UKIP candidate on the North Wales regional party list, she failed to secure a National Assembly for Wales seat.[6]

Following the resignation in December 2017 of former UKIP Assembly Member (AM), Nathan Gill, Jones (as the next available UKIP candidate on the regional list) was confirmed on 27 December as the replacement AM.[2][6] She was due to actively take up her duties following an oath swearing ceremony, which took place on 29 December at the Welsh Assembly's Colwyn Bay buildings.[7]

On 9 January 2018, UKIP Wales announced that she would not be joining the UKIP group in the Assembly, due to employing members of other parties in her office.[8] Jones refused to change her staff and described the UKIP group as "toxic". She describes herself as a Faragist and claims former UKIP leader Nigel Farage supports her actions.[9] Her party membership was suspended on 18 June 2018 following criticism of Neil Hamilton's nomination as an assembly commissioner.[10]

In March 2019, Jones spoke in the Assembly Chamber about the physical and emotional abuse she suffered from her adopted mother, in opposition to the Welsh Government's proposals to ban the smacking of children.[11]

In May 2019, Jones along with three other Assembly Members joined the Brexit Party and formed an assembly group in the Senedd, lead by Mark Reckless.

So it seems that Neil Hamilton is now the only Ukip Senedd member and tha's possibly even the rest of bunch of turncoats won't have him.

Whether Bennett and Abolish the Assembly Party slips in to the Senedd next year one wonders how long he would remain. Probably depends on if he's joined with a few others , but I suspect in less than a month  they willl be fighting like Kilkenny Cats

Neil McEvoy's Party to fight Regional Senedd Seats at least

Ex-Plaid Cymru politician Neil McEvoy has said his new party will stand candidates in every region of Wales in next year's Senedd election.

The  BBC report that

He said the party will challenge the "cartel in Welsh politics" and offer "change" to those disillusioned with devolution.

Mr McEvoy, currently Senedd Member for South Wales Central, wants to call the party the Welsh National Party.

However his application to register the name is being reconsidered.

The Electoral Commission, the body that oversees elections, announced in May that it had scrapped its original decision to recognise the name after Plaid Cymru threatened legal action.

Mr McEvoy described this as "political sabotage" but a Plaid spokesman said at the time "Plaid Cymru will always protect its historic name and we are confident that this matter will be resolved in a manner that allows us to continue doing so".

The uncertainty over branding is leaving the new party "a bit hamstrung" according to its leader, but Mr McEvoy said "if we don't get the name we were initially registered as, clearly there'll be legal action taken".

Mr McEvoy may well copy the Independence for Scotland Party (ISP)  last May which may profit from support from the "Wings Over Scotland " it would certainly avoid costly law suits. Or follow the right wing populists leaders in Europe and have people stand as "Neil McEvoys's List" candidates.

As well as fielding candidates on the regional list, Neil and clMcEvoy said the party will also stand in some constituencies, "because we know where we can win".

"In Cardiff West we're doing well, and we're the challengers to the first minister [Mark Drakeford]," he said.

"We're very much the outsiders. People will see a huge difference between the way we do business and the way that all the other parties compromise and want to be part of the club."

Mr McEvoy would not be drawn on the number of seats he hopes to win, and policies are still being developed ahead of next year's election

"We want people to own their own homes and be sovereign in their own lives," he said.

"Like Switzerland, we want a system of referenda so people can actually have their say.

"So the offer we're putting before the public next year will be a lot different to what's on offer currently."

Meanwhile  Mr McEvoy  suspension of Cardiff councillor has been upheld by the Adjudication Panel for Wales.

The suspension for four months, which was originally handed down by the council standards committee, came after two incidents around a care home in 2018.

Both related to Mr McEvoy’s involvement in a care dispute involving the council and a father whose child was in council care.

The former Plaid councillor, who is also a Member of the Senedd, appealed his case to his Adjudication Panel for Wales but they have ruled that it was correct in its decision.

A letter sent to all Cardiff Council workers, seen by WalesOnline, said: "Cllr McEvoy's suspension takes effect on June 23, 2020 and continues till midnight on October 22.

"Please note that during the period of his suspension Mr McEvoy may not exercise any of the rights, powers and duties of a Member of Cardiff Council."

This of course may play into Mr McEvoy's hands and he  will try to portray himself as victim of a bureaucratic conspiracy to undermine him and not as the self seeking populists many others see him.

Meanwhile in his annual report (pdf), the Acting Standards Commissioner, Douglas Bain TD, has suggested some MSs were using the official complaints system as a weapon to attack other MSs and parties.

A record 106 new complaints were received during 2019-20 – a 147% increase on the previous year – of which 84 were rejected as inadmissible.

58 complaints related to conduct on social media. However, the Acting Commissioner rejected issuing new guidance to members so as to prevent lower standards of behaviour being accepted on social media when compared to other forms of media.

Just over three-quarters of complaints were made by members of the public, with the remainder coming from within the Senedd itself – 13.2% from Members and 10.4% from the Clerk of the Senedd. One unnamed MS (by virtue of the quoted figures of complaints by party, likely to be an Independent) has reportedly made seven complaints about other members – only one of which was upheld – and the Acting Commissioner had reason to believe that some complaints from the public were instigated by a Member.

“One regrettable practice that became apparent during the year was the willingness of a small number of Members to use the complaints process as a political weapon. As noted above, one Member was responsible for more than half of all complaints made by Members. It was also clear that on other occasions a small number of Members had used a member of the public to make a complaint on their behalf.”

– Acting Standards Commissioner, Douglas Bain.

You may wonder  if Mr McEvoy is one of these mentioned I couldn't possibly comment.

Welsh Labour Politicians in act of great hypocrisy.

News that ocal health bosses have recommended that a full-time A&E department should be kept at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital,  is much welcomed
Cwm Taf Morgannwg health board had been working on plans to either close the department completely and replace it with a minor injuries unit, or only open A&E during the day.
Bosses say they have recruited enough staff now to keep the department open.
The full health board will discuss a paper outlining the plan next Monday.
The news seems to have been leaked and Labour Politician took advantage to take the credit

I’m hearing we’ve won the battle over the A and E at the Royal Glamorgan. Thank you everyone who fought for this!!

Great news about the future of our A&E services at #RoyalGlamorgan Hospital. South Wales Programme Project Group have recommended that a full-time, consultant-led A&E should be retained at the Hospital. I look forward to hearing the final decision from the Health Board soon.

"WE WON ?" Just who is running the NHS in Wales.

Chris Bryant Tweet was from behind a mask , I don't know whether this was for our protection or to hide his hypocrisy .
The response was understandingly negative

Replying to

Huge thanks to the SRGAE campaign group and everyone that signed a petition, displayed a poster or ribbon, wrote to Welsh Government, the Health Board and local politicians.
and of course Plaid Rhondda AM Leanne Wood

NEWYDDION DA / GOOD NEWS

Well done to everyone who campaigned against the Labour Welsh government & their health board’s plans to remove our A&E at the Royal Glamorgan. Not all problems are resolved so it makes sense for the campaigners to keep in touch.

Notice both (who were heavily involved) in the campaign do not claim victory for themselves but all who campaigned.
Even Tory AM Andrew RT Davies give credit were it was due

Big credit to local campaigners who put forward their case so strongly & made the health board & Welsh Government sit up and listen. Pleased common sense has prevailed & we now need to see a strong long-term plan from health bosses to ensure we're never in this situation again.
See Andrew RT Davies's other Twee

The Hypocrisy of Labour politicians in claiming credit for opposing a plan which their own goverment was failing to call in and end our concerns is stark.

I am looking forward to see their candidates in next year elections posing with pictures of themselves fighting to retain services at RGH.
Let's treat it with the scorn it deserves
