It would take a very brave Unionist politician to admit  that the UK is no longer a World Power and has not been for a long time.

Indeed all the evidence seems to support the idea amongst many of them that Brexit will lead to British Empire.2

The Prime Minister has insisted the United Kingdom will continue to be a “leading military power” despite pressure from MPs to increase defence spending.

Speaking to reporters on Armed Forces Day,which is supposed to be about supporting those who have served in the forces bit is actually a PR move to ensure backings for government intervention abroad Theresa May dodged questions about reported threats from Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson to raise the defence budget.
When asked directly about the reported rift, Mrs May dismissed the question by saying the UK has “the biggest defence budget in Europe”.

Though a  AAV points put  how how they spend this budget is pretty stupid.
The Australian government has announced a new deal for the construction of nine Hunter class frigates, but the Tory spin on this story is doubly-misleading and absolutely ridiculous.

The Tories are attempting to present the story as if the contract represents some kind of £20 billion boost for the British economy, but in reality the vast majority of the £20 billion will be spent in Australia, creating Australian jobs, and stimulating demand in the Australian economy.

The only significant benefit to Britain will come indirectly through profits made by the British-based arms company BAE Systems. The biggest single investor in BAE is an American investment company called Capital Group. And one of Capital Group's most notable employees happens to be ... Theresa May's husband!
It's not like we're building the ships and sending them over there, and it's not even like the profit margin will actually make its way back to Britain either, it'll be divvied up amongst the mega-rich multinational investment class.

To put this Tory spin into perspective, just consider how the Australian government have been presenting this deal to their own people (see picture). The overwhelming majority of the investment is staying within Australia, it's going to create thousands of Australian jobs, and it's going to stimulate the Australian economy.

Also consider what BAE themselves have said about the deal making a "significant contribution to the Australian economy" and "creating thousands of jobs, supporting new industries and boosting the national supply chain for decades to come

So in order  to preserve  the illusion that "we " are  amongst the World Powers then we are building ships on the other side of the world

Although the outsourcing model is under fire as never before. Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party has seized on the woes of Carillion and others to argue that “rip-off” private companies should not be allowed to “fleece” the public. Labour’s hostility dates back to the 1980s, when Margaret Thatcher developed “compulsory competitive tendering” as both a way to save money and a means to break the power of the public-sector unions (and with them the Labour Party). Although Labour became an enthusiastic outsourcer under Tony Blair in the 1990s, Mr Corbyn now promises to “take back control of public services”. On June 25th Labour promised that, if elected, it would re-examine all outsourced defence contracts.

That does not mean that Labour  is not going to carry on the pretence

Labour has pledged to maintain Britain’s status as a “tier one” military power, heaping pressure on Theresa May as she faces a growing row with defence secretary Gavin Williamson over funding for the armed forces and a revolt by Conservative MPs. The commitment by shadow defence secretary Nia Griffith on Monday comes after the prime minister shocked the armed forces last week by asking Mr Williamson for a paper justifying Britain’s tier one status alongside the US, Russia, China and France. She pointedly refused to promise that Britain would have such a status in the future.

Nia Griffith, has also said Labour will continue to back the renewal of the Trident weapons system despite Jeremy Corbyn’s longstanding opposition to nuclear weapons, the new shadow defence secretary

Those who thought Jeremy Corbyn would lead to Labour MPs finding their old CND badges at the back of a drawer are going to be  disappointed it seems.

As long as the Union exist we are going to get leaders like Thatcher and Blair who will use our young men and women as cannon fodder in an attempt to convince voters  "Britttania Rules the Waves"  and cement thier place in history.

Scottish and Welsh Independence should hopefully see these two nations seen as peace makers in the world and not taking part in foolhardy military   expeditions in a vain effort to pretend we are nothing but a subordinate of the USA military complex.
