Corbyn should consider who also opposed the Immigration Bill

While one part of government left members of the Windrush generation fearing deportation, another heaped praise on their “enormous” contribution to British society and launched a campaign to celebrate the Empire Windrush docking in London in June 1948.

Seemingly oblivious to the irony, communities minister Lord Bourne visited Lambeth, south London, in March and declared: “I am delighted to launch the Windrush 70 campaign today to celebrate the history of Britain’s black communities.
“The campaign is centred around the legacy of the Windrush Generation, and will recognise and celebrate the enormous contribution of the Windrush Generation and their descendants.”
Lord Bourne, who as Nick Bourne was leader of the Welsh Conservative Party, added:

“The campaign will keep this legacy alive for future generations, ensuring that we all recognise the diversity of Britain’s history.”

Meanwhile in a heated exchange at Prime Minister's Questions, Mr Corbyn said: "Yesterday, we learned in 2010 the Home Office destroyed the landing cards for a generation of Commonwealth citizens and so have told people 'we can't find you in our system'.
"Did the prime minister, the then-home secretary, sign off that decision?"

Ms May replied: 

"No, the decision to destroy the landing cards was taken in 2009 under a Labour government."

Tory MPs shouted "apologise" to Labour at her words, which could prove highly embarrassing for the opposition front bench after Diane Abbott, the shadow home secretary, suggested Amber Rudd should resign over the controversy.

Though there has been suggestion that the Prime Minister was er misinformed.

Lets be honest blaming Civil Servants for this unholy mess is not an answer and to be fair those involved probably did not envisage  the appalling  immigration legislation the then PM Savid Cameron  and his Home Secretary one Therssa May would bring forward  a few years later,

Legislation which only an handful of Labour MPs opposed the Bill.

Now that the disgusting consequences of this grotesque legislation are becoming more clear (especially in relation to the Windrush generation who have been imprisoned, made homeless, denied work, denied health care, and even deported as a consequence) it's very important to pay tribute to the 18 brave MPs who stood up and voted against this travesty of a bill, while the rest of the House of Commons blithely went along with this overt display of blue-kip extremism by Theresa May.

Note that all three Plaid Cymru, and the one Green MP all voted against the bill. Five of the six SNP representatives voted against it. Just six MPs from the Labour left voted against it (three of whom are now the leader, shadow Home Secretary, and Shadow Chancellor), and just three of the 57 Lib-Dems voted against it (one who resigned in disgust in 2015 and two who lost their seats in the furious public backlash against their party's collusion with the Tories at the 2015 General Election). Not a single Tory MP voted against it.

Of the Welsh and Scottish MPs there was a notable absence fromthe Labour benches,
Labour supporters may take  some comfort in the inclusion of Corbyn, Abbot McDonnell on this list , but it is the SNP,Plaid and the Greens  who can claim the moral high ground here and I have no reason to question that the now Plaid and 35 SNP would not behave in the same way. 

Indeed as Jeremy Corbyn travels to Wales and Scotland and campaigns against Caroline Lucus in her Brighton seat he would do well  reflect in just who joined him the lobbies over the years .
